| RISKS - The
risks of an abnormality being present is evaluated for each couple on an individual basis
during genetic counseling. The risk of pregnancy loss related to amniocentesis is
1 in 1600 after midtrimester amniocentesis. There seems to be no significant difference in loss rates between the women that have amniocentesis and those that do not have amniocentesis. The use of ultrasound to guide the procedure maximizes the
safety. |
